Getting to the Bavarian Forest National Park region without the car is straightforward when you travel with EC, IC, ICE or local trains via Plattling station. The green shuttles of the Waldbahn run from Plattling every hour direct to Zwiesel, Bayerisch Eisenstein and Bodenmais, with connections every two hours to Frauenau, Spiegelau and Grafenau.

The journey through the beautiful landscape between Plattling and Zwiesel lasts 50 minutes. Some 500 metres in altitude, tunnels and bridges separate the two totally different landscapes of the Danube and the Bavarian Forest.

The large panoramic windows of the Waldbahn afford an excellent view of one of the most beautiful train lines in Bavaria.

Towns and villages in the eastern part of the national park area can be reached via Passau, from where buses depart for Freyung. You can take advantage of the Bayerwald Ticket which enables you to travel on bus and train for the whole day from just 7.00 Euros.
