Adventure Trails surrounded by virgin forest
For the first time since our ancestors cleared the primitive forest to make room to live for themselves, visitors to the Bavarian Forest National Park now have the opportunity to take in wild forest as it forms. A number of adventure paths take the visitor through wild forest along ecologically friendly boardwalks in otherwise hard-to-reach forest areas. You will be fascinated as you observe the virgin forests of tomorrow in their beginning stages.
Experiencing nature and history together: Under the motto “Nature knows no bounds”, a special cross-border hiking area was created in the eastern section of the National Park near Mauth/Finsterau. Portions of trail are equipped with information panels dealing with the history of the forest in German and Czech. The Bavarian side of the hiking trails focuses on the hard work performed by forestry workers. Some of the labor required considerable skill and craftsmanship: construction of boardwalks, old transport sled paths, sophisticated log flumes, booms, and timber slides for log driving. The Bohemian (Czech) side concentrates on the history of the people who once lived in the region as well as the historical changes that affected the landscape.
